Wilson Avenue work planned
Beginning the morning of Tuesday, January 8, MUB crews will close a portion of Wilson Avenue between White Avenue and Overdale Street. This work may continue for up to three weeks. During this time MUB crews will install roughly 700 feet of 6" PVC water line to replace an existing cast iron line that runs from Green Street to Overdale Street. Work is expected to occur between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday thru Friday. During non-work hours and weekends the road will be reopened.
This work is being done in preparation for the City of Morgantown paving project. Because the original line, installed prior to 1927 (with valves and connectors replaced in the 1960s) has experienced multiple leaks over the past few years, it was determined appropriate to replace the line ahead of paving. The total cost of replacing the water line is estimated at $66,400.
Water outages will ultimately be necessary when crews tie-in service lines to the new water line. Such interruptions will be short in duration and customers impacted will be notified in advance.
